Lead Kennel Assistant $13.50/HR 40HR/WK
Geneva Location: The Kennel Assistant performs animal care functions under the direction of the Shelter Operations and Program Manager. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following according to shelter protocols and policies: cleans shelter kennels and cages, feeds and exercise animals; writing skills for documentation; assisting with animal behavior assessments and assisting with reclaim and animal adoptions. Humanely euthanizes animals according to policies and protocols. Cares for sick and healthy animals. Additionally this position may require some weekend, evening and holiday hours. Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent. Minimum two years’ experience working in an animal kennel, animal hospital or related facility. Interest in animals and knowledge of various breeds expected. Ability to learn body language and animal communication styles. Euthanasia certification preferred, or must be able to obtain within 6 months of employment. Computer experience for data entry and look up functions. Customer service skills required. Ability to lift 70 lbs. (dog food bags, animals). Valid Illinois driver’s license, current certificate of vehicle insurance.
Warden – Geneva $13.00 -$14.00/HR (DOQ) 40HRS/WK
The Animal Control Warden enforces Illinois statutes for regulation of licensing, ownership and animal/rabies control; warns owners and issues citations for animal violations pursuant to the Illinois State Statute and Kane County Codes. Maintains daily logs, takes phone calls and greets public. Maintains good public relations; advises public regarding reclaim, relinquishing and adoption of animals. Humanely euthanizes animals according to policies and protocols. Conducts investigations of dog bite cases, responds to animal complaint calls, seizes and impounds stray animals as required. Investigates and takes appropriate action to protect inhumane treatment of animals. Engages in safety practices pertaining to kennel care, impounding and transporting methods. Diffuses difficult customer interactions with tactfulness; answers complaints and takes appropriate action. Cares for sick and healthy animals. Requirements: High School graduate or equivalent; 6 months of related experience and or training in the care of healthy and diseased animals; valid Illinois Drivers license and vehicle insurance; Euthanasia certification preferred, or must be able to obtain within 6 months of employment. Ability to lift up to 70 lbs; works in all types of terrain/buildings; works outdoors in all types of weather; ability to travel throughout the county; ability to communicate in a professional courteous manner and basic knowledge of computer software.
Must be available to work evenings, weekends and be on-call.
